Ray McGovern looks back on a
lifetime of service to his country, in
the infantry and intelligence of the US Army, and later for 27 years as
an analyst for the CIA under seven presidents starting with
Kennedy. As his seniority increased he prepared the daily
presidential intelligence briefings as well as giving briefings to the
vice president, Secretaries of State and Defense, Chairman of the Joint
Chiefs of Staff, and the National Security advisor. This fellow
knows intelligence.
He is also a man of great compassion as shown by his
subsequent work with religious organizations and his more recent
position as codirector of the Servant Leadership School in Washington, DC - a
center for establishing relationship with the marginalized poor.
He was awarded the Intelligence Commendation Medal by Bush Sr
but returned the medal under the administration of
Bush the lesser in protest of the corruption of intelligence under his
regime stating, "I do not wish to be associated, however remotely, with
an agency engaged in torture."
He is a cofounder of VIPS - Veteran Intelligence Professionals for Sanity.
VIPS began publishing the consensus of a group of former intelligence
professionals from the CIA, DIA / Defense Intelligence Agency, the
State Department and others pointing out Bush regime's corruption of
intelligence in the runup to the Iraq War and since.
There are few men of such experience that have the integrity
and courage to Speak Truth to Power. Ray McGovern is one of
these men.
